X Year Late Entrance
Thank you for your enquiry regarding admission to the Royal Grammar School.
Year 8 Entry
The school has exceeded its planned admission number (PAN) in September 2020 (Year 7). As there are already 210 boys planned for this year group, we will not be scheduling a testing round for Year 8 commencing 2021.
Year 9 and Year 10 Entry
You may now register your son for our next round of late entrance examinations for entry into Years 9 and 10 to be held on Friday 5 February 2021 following which a waiting list will be established for possible intake 2020/21, subject to qualification and availability of places. As an Academy, RGS administers its own late entrance testing - this is different to the Bucks Council 13+ or any testing arrangements other schools may have in place.
For your information our testing is in English and Mathematics. Each paper is 40 minutes long and consists of 35 multiple choice questions. Boys have to pass both exams in order to qualify. We do not provide sample papers and we would suggest that coaching or revision is unnecessary.
Please note that the testing does not imply that there are spaces but allows us to establish a waiting list of suitable boys should a place become available.
There is a lot of competition for places at the Royal Grammar School, particularly for entry into Year 9. For your information, typically we receive in the region of 10 applications per place available.
If you wish to register for the entrance tests next year, please complete the attached registration form by Monday 11 January 2021. You will receive further information after this date. If you do not return a completed form no reminders will be sent and your son will not be invited to testing.
It is very important that you make us aware of any special needs or requirements and exceptional circumstances, using the relevant sections on the form, as it will be difficult to take these into account later in the process.
Please our Admissions Policy will be available to view shortly.
