Boarding

Why Board at RGS?

Before I came to RGS and Fraser Youens, I had always hated school. Fraser Youens changed that and my two years have probably been the happiest of my life. I am so proud of who I have become and what I have achieved. I genuinely believe that had I not found RGS and this boarding house I wouldn't have got anywhere near achieving what I have been able to do.

A direct quote from a sixth former now at Cambridge reading Law.

Here at RGS, we are privileged to be able to provide accommodation for up to seventy boarders aged 11-18 within our modern, purpose-built boarding house, Fraser Youens. Constructed just before the new millennium, our accommodation, facilities and the overall boarding experience we provide is consistently rated as outstanding by our students. The comfort of the boys in our care is central to every aspect of boarding life and we are delighted to say that our staff and boarders alike share a true sense of family and community, ensuring a genuine ‘home from home’ experience.

Over the past eight years, our boarders have consistently outperformed our day students in academic results, with recent leavers achieving over 90% at A*-B at A-Level and almost 80% at A*-A grades at GCSE. Boarding at RGS allows our boys to benefit from extra time studying, which would otherwise be spent travelling to and from school, as well as the opportunity to participate in the wide range of activities available in and out of traditional school hours. The ability to socialise, enjoy in-built free time and have access to continuous academic and pastoral support is core to the success of our boarding students.

Our highest priority has, and will always be, the welfare of our students and as such, we strongly believe that boarding should not be a separation from family but instead an extension of family. Throughout their time at RGS, our boarding students will benefit from being at the core of a working partnership between their parents and our staff, designed to both nurture and promote success. We strive to promote a feeling of family community throughout Fraser Youens and we actively encourage many of our boarders help lead this community within both the house and school.

The senior leadership team takes pride in the quality of care provided to the children and the progress that they make. They are aspirational for all the children and value the sense of community that the boarding experience brings. They place the children at the centre of all that they do, and the children feel this during their boarding experience.
