The Benevolent Fund
The Benevolent Fund was established in December 1958 after the school raised over £20, which was divided between Dr Barnardo’s Homes and the Mayor’s Fund. As a result of this effort it was decided to start a regular Benevolent Fund with voluntary weekly collections.
The Benevolent Fund is an integral part of wider life at the RGS. We hope that every student can leave us at the end of their school day or end of their school career with the knowledge, skills and emotional intelligence to succeed and make valuable contributions to society. As a result, encouraging them to learn about a number of charities and donate 50p per week (£18 for the academic year) of their own pocket money is a stepping stone to habits that will stay with them.
This year, we will be supporting six charities – Jeans for Genes, Oxfam, Prostate Cancer, School Aid, Mind and Save the Children. Staff nominated a number of organisations that students then voted on to pick this final list.
In the unfortunate situation of a natural or world disaster, additional causes will be adopted.
There are more than one side to an RGS boy and being charitable is one of them. Please do support the Fund by reminding your son to bring his money in either every Tuesday or £3.50 at the start of a half term.
