At RGS, our vision is to be world-class, through offering those most naturally able, irrespective of their background, the best all-round education offered by a UK state school.
Outward looking and aspirational, our vision is a demonstration of the traits we seek to nurture and develop in each of our boys. Our mission is clear – to ensure that young men leaving RGS do so as worldly-wise, self-assured, high-achievers, fully prepared for all they will encounter in the next stages of their lives because of the exceptional all-round education we have given them.
Achieving our mission depends on many factors, not least inspirational teaching and an exceptional co-curricular provision, but underpinning all of these factors must be the facilities we have in which to teach and learn.
To this end, we are embarking upon an ambitious programme of remodelling and refurbishment to create facilities that not only improve and enhance the existing learning environment but also match those provided by all other grammar schools. Whilst our ongoing plans include improvements to facilities throughout the School, our immediate priority is the creation of a Sixth Form Centre.
The Sixth Form Centre
At RGS, our Sixth Form education is far broader than just the subjects studied at A-level. The two years spent here as a Sixth Former are the pinnacle of RGS school life, where our students become young men and make the transition to the next stages of their lives.
Whilst encouraging increased independence and responsibility, we expect excellence and professionalism from our Sixth Formers. Whilst the wearing of suits and, for Year 13, access to one large room designated solely for their use has helped to foster the distinct identity of a Sixth Former, the current provision is inadequate and we must go further.
Our new Sixth Form Centre, set over two floors, will incorporate space for teaching, private study and recreation and will include:
- a multi-use lecture theatre providing space for whole year lectures and smaller group seminars;
- meeting room space for small group work, senior prefect team meetings and breakout sessions;
- a professionally run café providing recreational space with access to hot and cold refreshments throughout the school day; and
- independent learning suites with space for both book and technology-based study.
Fundraising for the Sixth Form Centre
With no Government funding available to help build our Sixth Form Centre, we are asking all members of the RGS community to join with us to raise the £1,500,000 required. Unashamedly ambitious for a state-funded school, our intention is to raise these funds in the next twelve months and open the Sixth Form Centre during the academic year 2020/21.
As a registered charity, donations to RGS can be made tax-efficiently. If you are a UK taxpayer, your donation will qualify for Gift Aid and RGS can claim an extra 25p for every £1 you donate. In addition to the amount RGS can reclaim, if you pay tax at the higher or additional rates you can claim Income Tax relief for yourself on the difference between your rate of tax and the basic rate during the completion of your self-assessment tax return.
