As a keen sportsman, he values the importance of physical activity on mental health and wellbeing and this provision at RGS was one of the factors that drew him to our school. Respect, integrity and aspiration are values that he feels passionately about and embodies innovation at every opportunity.
Director of Boarding and Assistant Head, Jon Scourfield studied Physical Education and balanced the early part of his teaching career alongside playing professional rugby league. He has had considerable experience within the pastoral aspect of RGS, both for our youngest and oldest students, having previously been Head of Year 7 and Head of Sixth Form. Jon led the rugby at RGS for almost a decade, has been involved for over twenty years and still coaches the senior forwards. Jon believes that boarding offers unique opportunities to further develop the character and social skills of our young men. Whether it be Sport, Music, DofE, CCF or the myriad of other co-curricular opportunities on offer at RGS, it is the development of the whole person that makes RGS such a positive environment for our students.
