Hockey

Outdoor

Hockey is the main sport in the spring term and is offered to all boys from Year 7 through to the Sixth Form. We currently run A-D teams at U12 & U13, and A-B teams at U14 and U15, which all feed into our senior squads at U16 and U18 level. All age groups take part in their own National Cup competition.

We are lucky enough to have our own high quality, brand new astroturf for training and matches and our hockey players also have access to our fantastic fitness suite in which they can take part in their own strength & conditioning to improve performance on the pitch.

Indoor

In the autumn term we run indoor hockey across the U14, U16 and U18 age groups, the latter two of which take part in the national championships. Training and fixtures take place on our own indoor pitch. Indoor hockey is used both as a way of preparing for the outdoor season as well as an enjoyable alternative to the 11-aside version of the sport.

Coaching

Our team of coaches brings a huge amount of experience from outside the school to benefit the players. Currently, our team has experience of both playing and coaching at National League level and coaching in the England Hockey Single System, as well as working with Senior and Junior International players.

RGS Friends of Hockey – supporting Hockey at RGS

The RGS Friends of Hockey exists to raise funds in support of Hockey at RGS. The majority of the money we raise pays for graduate and/or sessional coaches to supplement the lunchtime and after school training delivered by the full-time staff. We also help pay for competition entry fees, transport to fixtures and equipment such as hockey sticks, balls and goalie kit used in lessons and matches.

To join RGS Friends of Hockey, go to Parentpay or donate online and pay the membership sub of £40 per year. If you are eligible for Gift Aid, select that option and add the required information under Notes so that RGS can benefit from an additional 25% on top of your donation, at no extra cost to you or the school. Thank you!

Links with Clubs

We play all our school fixtures mid-week which allows us to release our hockey players to play for clubs on weekends. This is seen as integral to their development as it exposes them to different opportunities and environments as well as giving them a platform to get involved in playing adult hockey.

RGS has particularly strong links with Wycombe Hockey ClubGerrards Cross Hockey Club and Amersham & Chalfont Hockey Club. The quality of coaching is at a high level and the clubs put much time into their Junior sections.
