Luke Poulton appointed as one of His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets

Congratulations to Luke Poulton who was appointed as one of His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets yesterday by Countess Howe, the Lord-Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire.

The Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet appointment marks the achievement of outstanding service by an individual to their Cadet movement.

Every year the Lord-Lieutenant appoints a cadet from each of the cadet forces and a cadet from the Combined Cadet Force to support her on official engagements. In their role, they will have the opportunity to escort the Lord-Lieutenant on her duties and to meet members of the Royal Family who visit Buckinghamshire.

His Majesty's Lord-Lieutenants are the personal representatives of the Crown for each county in the United Kingdom and are appointed by The King on the Advice of the Prime Minister.

Lord-Lieutenants were originally appointed in Henry Vlll's reign to take over the military duties of the Sheriff and control the military forces of the Crown. In 1662, they were given entire control of the military; but the Forces Act of 1871 transferred this function back to the Crown. Their responsibilities today are both formal and informal. From presenting decorations such as the British Empire Medal (BEM) and The King's Awards for Enterprise and Voluntary Service to supporting the voluntary sectors of county life.
