Ancient History

Ancient History is a great subject for people with any interest in the Greeks and Romans. Whether you have done Classical Civilisation before or not, the course does not require any previous knowledge of the ancient world and is great for those starting at sixth form. I like how the subject lets you really explore certain periods of history; learning about the Fall of the Roman Republic for instance in a lot of detail is something I really enjoyed. If you like history, and want to specialise, or simply want to start something new, Ancient History is a good option. Personally, I would like to use this A-level to study Classics at university and in particular lots of Roman history, but also to branch out and learn more about ancient philosophy and literature. Ancient History of course prepared me greatly for this degree, as history is involved in most Classics courses; however, the skills you learn during A-Level Ancient History, such as written communication, critical thinking and constructing arguments, are also incredibly useful and can be applied to almost any subject you wish to study at a higher level.
