In Secondary school English much of your time is spent delving into the secrets hidden between the lines of classic books and plays. One of my personal favourite texts that we looked at was Animal Farm by George Orwell, which on the surface may seem like a children’s book, but actually recounts the Russian revolution with each key figure linking to the story. In the past we have also been given the opportunity to see the plays that we studied live at the theatre. During GCSE you will study many war poems and learn about the poets’ personal experiences, which if you enjoy history is very interesting. Even if you struggle with English, the teachers do an excellent job of explaining the more complicated points, which has really helped me grasp the subject.
