When I first arrived at the RGSHW I was genuinely indifferent about studying English as I had never particularly enjoyed it at my last school. How wrong could I have been! My Year 7 teacher was inspiring, fun and helpful. English isn’t just about being given something to write and being told to get on with it – instead, most of the lessons involve analysing how to improve your work and the critical things to avoid. I have loved the opportunity to discuss my work as it develops, and to receive really honest feedback along the way – good and bad! I’ve loved the creative writing and, surprisingly enough, analysing poems – trust me, it’s fun once you get into it. Although it’s only the end of the first week of Year 8, I’m now thoroughly enjoying learning new things with my new Year 8 English teacher. I know everyone says this to you all the time, but if you genuinely try your hardest, you can’t help but enjoy English at the RGS.
