Year 7 Admissions and Open Events
OPEN EVENTS
We look forward to welcoming you and prospective Year 7 students to RGS for our Open Evening on Tuesday 15 September 2026, from 5:30pm to 8:00pm. Tickets for the evening will be available from Friday, 4 September.
The event will feature a presentation from the Headmaster alongside student-led tours of the school. Tours begin at 5:30pm and run throughout the evening; however, please note that no tours will be available after the final Headmaster’s presentation. These presentations will take place in the Queen’s Hall at 6:30pm, 7:00pm, and 7:30pm, so we highly recommend arriving early if you would like a full tour.
For parents interested in boarding, please complete a Year 7 Boarding Registration Form prior to the event, and make yourselves known to our Boarding Team upon arrival.
If you cannot make this event, or would like to see the school again, we will also be hosting two open mornings on Monday 12th and Wednesday 14th October 2026 as alternative or additional tour opportunities.
YEAR 7 Admission
Secondary Transfer Testing (11+) Registration
Registration for the 11+ Secondary Transfer Test depends on which primary school your child currently attends:
-
Buckinghamshire Local Authority (LA) Primary Schools: Your child is automatically registered and will sit the test at their current school.
-
All Other Schools (Out-of-County / Independent): You must register your child for testing. They will take the test at a central venue within Buckinghamshire.
How to Register
Buckinghamshire Council manages the entire 11+ Transfer Testing process and allocates all Year 7 day places. To register your child, please use Buckinghamshire Council's online application portal.

School Catchment Area & Priority Areas
To check your distance from the school and see if your home falls within our official boundaries, you can use the online tools provided by Buckinghamshire Council:
-
Catchment Area: Use the Buckinghamshire Schools Postcode Checker to view your straight-line distance from the school and confirm if your address is in the general catchment.
-
Priority Area: The Royal Grammar School has a specific priority area within the wider catchment. You can view the Catchment Area Map and use the Priority Area Catchment Checker directly on the Buckinghamshire Council website to see how this applies to your address.
-
Boarding Applicants: Please note, there is no catchment area requirement for students applying for boarding places.
Important: Submitting Supporting Evidence
If your child qualifies under Section 2 of the Year 7 over-subscription criteria (5.0) and you wish for their application to be prioritised under this rule, you must submit all necessary documentary evidence directly to the school.

Deadline: 31 October
-
Where to send: Email your documentation to admissions@rgshw.com
