Well, here we are at the finishing line, although earlier than expected. Which, as so often in life, is of course where the starting line is. And what a journey it’s been to this point.
It was a tremendous shock when we received the OFSTED result in the Autumn, I remember thinking what is going on, but I recovered eventually. If this school is one thing then it’s not just boys, but also the Coronavirus. But of course, we are more than one thing, we might be even more than two things. We’re about many things, each one uniquely connected to everything we’re about and everything we do – I’ve just got to check whether ST actually know what I'm talking about and are getting on with it.
Yes, there have been problems along the way. Of course there have. But at RGS what I like to say is that problems are solutions waiting to happen. So I have said it, again and again in the hopes someone will actually listen to me.
OK, so we discovered that there wasn’t going to be enough parking at school for staff let alone me. A symbol of everything that all of us believe in so passionately, a parking space. Did that stop ST coming up with yet more bright ideas that haven't solved the 'wellbeing' problem and my explaining as HM I needed one? No, it did not!
So let’s not be afraid today to acknowledge what it is that we’ve achieved. Over 450 years ago there was literally no RGS. Now there’s definitely something, or at least virtual we think. And we delivered that something out of that nothing as of last week. Let us take that achievement with us going forward towards a future beyond the national curriculum, whatever that actually means.
So thank you to each and every one of you and I suppose what I’m really trying to say is that basically, it’s all good for next term.
