As we monitor the current weather conditions, we wanted to provide clarity on how a decision regarding a potential school closure will be made and communicated.
Because winter weather can change rapidly, we review the situation daily to prioritise the safety of our entire school community. A site inspection of the school site and immediate area will take place every morning before a decision gets made.
When to expect an update
A final decision will be made early tomorrow morning; 7:00 AM at the very latest. You can find the update of the decision shortly after via the following channels:
-
Email: A direct message will be sent to all parents and carers.
-
School Website: The homepage will be updated with a clear status banner.
-
County Closures Page: We will also register our status on the official Local Authority school closures website.
Our "Staged" Learning approach
To help you plan ahead, should we need to close the physical site, we will follow a staged approach designed to balance learning with student well-being:
-
Day 1 of Closure: A Day for Memories. There will be no formal remote learning set on the first day. We encourage students to enjoy the snow safely, step away from their screens, and make the most of the winter weather. We believe that the first day of a snow closure is a rare opportunity for children to be children. We want our students to spend the day making memories; enjoying the magic of a white winter just as many of us did when we were young. These memories stay with us for a lifetime.
-
Day 2 Onwards: Remote Learning Resumes. If the closure continues for a second consecutive day, we will move to full remote learning via Google Classroom, following the normal school timetable. More details on this will follow should it look likely.
Students who have Exams during a school closure
-
Mock exams: These will be postponed and will be added to end of the of mock exam timetable
-
BTEC Anatomy & Physiology exam: With such low numbers doing this exam, we will endeavour to remain open as a test centre for these students. We will communicate this in the morning. Students who are unable to travel safely due to inclement weather will be able to take this exam in May, even if the school remains open as a test centre.
We hope this information helps you prepare for tomorrow. Please stay safe and warm this evening.
