Remembering RGS in your Will
Why should I leave a legacy?
Leaving a legacy gift to RGS is an opportunity for you to support the future of RGS. Even the smallest donation can make a real difference, and leave an impact for many years to come. Or perhaps you want to reflect your affection for and gratitude to the School at a level that is not possible during your lifetime. As a legacy gift is exempt from Inheritance Tax it also has the potential to reduce the tax burden on your family.
Making a will is a significant and personal undertaking and the welfare of those closest to you will naturally come first. The decision to leave a legacy to RGS is a big one, but you can be sure that your gift will be used in the most effective way. Whatever the size, all gifts are gratefully received and deeply valued by current boys and future generations of Wycombiensians.
How can I make a legacy?
If you choose to make a gift to RGS in your Will, you will need to advise your solicitor of your intention to leave a legacy to the Wycombe Royal Grammar School Foundation (Registered Charity No. 1179234). Your solicitor will add your wishes to your Will using a Codicil supplement (or re-draft a new Will) and can also advise you about the most appropriate type of legacy for you to leave.
Whilst you do not need to let us know of your planned gift, informing us of your wishes allows us to plan for the future, ensures we can meet your wishes, and also means that we can say thank you during your lifetime. For all legacies, we understand that circumstances can change and notifying us of your intentions will not represent a binding commitment.
How will my gift be used?
Many donors give an ‘unrestricted’ gift so RGS can use the funds where they are most needed or for maximum benefit. These gifts normally go towards the development of the School estate and facilities for future generations. If you would prefer to discuss how you would like your gift to be used please get in touch.
Legacies are hugely valuable to the School, whatever the size. We greatly appreciate and recognise all those who intend to leave a legacy gift. If you have included RGS in your will, or intend to do so in the future, we'd love to thank you and tell you a bit more about how your gift will support the future of RGS. We'd also like to invite you to our annual Donor Day, where we thank and recognise all those who support RGS financially.
