Summer Concert - Wednesday 30th April 2008

A superb evening of musical entertainment was enjoyed by the audience at this year's Summer Concert with a difference on Wednesday 30th April. If you missed it, you missed a real treat!
This is the concert when we traditionally say goodbye to some of our senior musicians as they depart RGS and go on to further education. In recognition of the outstanding contribution so many in this particular Year 13 have made, we decided to alter the format of the concert somewhat, to give the evening a more festive flavour.
The first half consisted of the Bach Brandenburg Concerto No. 2, featuring several of our Year 13 musicians, and then Elgar’s Cello Concerto, soloist Alex Aldren, with a joint RGS/WHS orchestra.

The RGS Big Band entertained during the interval, playing beneath the Queen’s Hall in “The Space”.

The second half consisted of an abridged performance of Gilbert & Sullivan’s “Pirates of Penzance”, on stage, when we were helped out by some of Wycombe High students once again.

The evening concluded with a run down by Mr Venvell, listing the contributions of each of the Year 13 leavers, and a presentation of gifts by the boys to both Mr Bolton and Mr Venvell.
DVDs of the Summer Concert are now in production. If you would like a copy, please contact either Andrew Smith in 12CS or Tom Sears in 13MT as soon as possible. A charge of £5 per DVD is made to cover costs.
