Chaplaincy Parents' Information Evening

The RGS Chaplaincy would like to invite you to find out more about what we do.

8pm Thursday 27th March for Cheese & Wine

at the home of Malcolm and Sandy Walters

3rd March 2008

Dear Parents

Over the last few years, the numbers of boys attending events organised by the school Chaplaincy has increased significantly. By year 13, about half of the year group (one hundred boys) will have chosen to attend a Christian meeting of some kind. We are increasingly aware that parents like to know more about what their sons do at school, and so we are holding a Chaplaincy Information Evening to give you the opportunity to find out more about what we do. It may be that your son has never been to a meeting and you would like to know what is on offer. Alternatively, he may be a regular attendee and you are interested to know more of what happens. Two other issues which we would like to discuss with you during the evening are Christian summer holidays and the possibility of starting one or more parents’ prayer groups.

Christian Holidays

RGS old boy Barnaby Monteiro is currently working for a Christian organisation called LymingtonRushmore Holidays. Barnaby has been supporting the Chaplaincy work this year, visiting the school once a fortnight. As a result of the growing association with LymingtonRushmore, six RGS boys have signed up to go on holidays at Christmas, Easter and in the summer this year. Barnaby will be there on the 27th March to let you know some of the benefits of sending your sons on one of these holidays.

Parents’ Prayer

Until September last year, a former RGS parent Lynn Scrivener, ran a parents’ prayer meeting for the school and the Chaplaincy. It was well supported and valued by a number of parents who felt strongly about the need to pray for their son’s school. We were extremely grateful for this, as it was an encouragement to know we had that prayer support. Her sons have now moved on from RGS and she felt it was time to pass on the baton. We would therefore like your ideas on whether you feel this is something you would value, whether you might like to take on a similar role and what would be the most convenient format for parents’ prayer.

Malcolm and Sandy Walters (parents of a boy in year 12) have very kindly offered to host the evening at their home, 6 Magnolia Dene, Hazlemere, High Wycombe, Bucks HP15 7QE. We would like to know approximate numbers for catering purposes, so if you want to attend then please contact me on pst@rgshw.com or 01494 551415. This is an open invitation so feel free to ask other parents who you think would appreciate the invitation and may not have received one of these letters. Thank you for taking the time to read this and we do hope you might be able to make it. We look forward to seeing you there,

Yours sincerely
