Brains of 13 2008 - Rules
1. Matches will take place on a Monday lunchtime beginning at 1.35 in L7. Each match will last 30 minutes.
2. The challenge will run on a straight knock-out basis.
3. Teams may NOT substitute a player under any circumstances. In the event of absence, teams may play with a player missing.
4. The initial matches were drawn from a hat at random in the presence of all teams on Monday 4th February (actually, it was a box, but it had the same effect).
5. Team Captains take responsibility for ensuring their teams arrive in the right place at the right time. Failure to show up will lead to disqualification.
6. Starter questions must be answered on the buzzers only and players may NOT confer. In the event that a player gives a wrong answer, the question will be offered to the other side, again on the buzzers with no conferring. Each starter question is worth 10 points.
7. Bonus questions come in threes, once a starter question has been won. Teams may confer and the answer must be delivered by the Captain within a reasonable time limit. In the event of a wrong answer, the question will again be offered to the other side, which may confer and deliver an answer via the captain. Each bonus question is worth 10 points. Three correct bonus questions in one round will earn an additional 10 points, making a maximum possible score per round of 50 points.
8. Scores will be displayed on the Interactive White Board behind the Quizmaster.
9. Questions will be taken from “Senior Schools Challenge” question lists and will be delivered in strict chronological order. The set of questions used for each match will be decided by the Quizmaster.
10. The winning team at the end of each match will progress to the next round. In the event of a draw, extra time will be played.
11. It is traditional in previous years that the winning team will be offered the chance to take on a staff team and this should hopefully be possible this year too (to be confirmed!)
12. The Quizmaster’s decision is final.
