Karen Westaway
Karen Westaway: Parent Governor, Numeracy GovernorI have been a Governor at the RGS for the past 6 years. My experience and skills have been used in a wide variety of roles and I have acted to fulfill a very diverse range of duties from helping with Prefect selection to facilitating at Careers events. I am committed to ensuring the continuance of the traditional RGS standard of academic excellence. Currently I am the Numeracy Governor, working with the Head of Mathematics to align the teaching of mathematical methods across the curriculum. I also place an active role on various sub-committees. I maintain a large network of friends and contacts with RGS parents and parents from other schools. This has always helped in representing views of a wide range of parents at Board level. At work I am the CEO of a global Healthcare Management Consultancy with offices in High Wycombe, London and New York. Primarily our work involves the introduction of new medicines and new technologies into healthcare systems. My particular speciality is communication. Having previously worked in the pharmaceutical industry for 13 years in sales, marketing and public relation roles, I now coach on strategic planning, business and change mangement, knowledge management and developing strategy. I consult on communication issues. I was educated in the Grammar School system and graduated from Hull University with a degree in Italian with French. Outside of the RGS and my work, my life revolves around our family. My son has now left the RGS and is reading (and thoroughly enjoying) Philosophy at Birmingham University. We also have a daughter who is doing her A Levels at Wycombe High School. My passion is literature and theatre - and this is where I can be found whenever I have a quiet moment to myself!
