Field Trip with Year 10
At the end of February, 41 Year 10 Geographers set off on the long trip to Yorkshire for their residential Geography Field Trip. We spent the afternoon being blown about in Skipton examining flood defences, and endured the gale of the year that night. The power cut actually added to the feeling of isolation and excitement! The next day the winds had died down and the rain dried up, and over the weekend we visited the stunning limestone scenery of Malham, including the 80m high Malham Cove, the Limestone Pavement, Watlowes Dry Valley and the cavernous Gordale Scar. On the other day we explored the Yorkshire Dales National Park and its varied glacial landscapes - climbing terminal moraine, seeing beautiful waterfalls, finally spotting a swarm of drumlins and being wowed by the sweeping curves of the fabulous glacial valleys. Monday saw the snow arrive - cue the obligatory snowball fight. We then carried out a settlement survey of Skipton and then onto the coach for the return journey home. It was a fabulous trip, and everybody who went learnt a huge amount, and were really inspired by the epic scenery and excellent tutors at the centre.
