Race Reports
Boston Marathon 17th September
Eleven RGS boys alongside two recent OWs took part in the Boston Mara
Simon Jennings winning J18 1xthon this year. The race commences in Lincoln and finishes at Boston Rowing Club, an arduous 50km including carrying boats over Bardney lock.
Bright sunshine and plenty of parental support helped the crews down the course and despite stong winds later in the day the RGS posted some impressive times. Special mention must go to Simon Jennings (Yr 13) who won the J18 singles event by an impressive 17 minutes.
Reading Small Boats Head 14th October
Six boys made the trip to Reading in bright sunshine for the Small Boats Head. The J15 quad of Alex Lai, Alex Warrilow-Wilson, Alex Dark, Adam Roberts and Ollie Stidwell (cox) came an impressive fifth place in their debut head race and Ben Charleston (J16 1x) came an encouraging sixth. We hope for good results from these crews as the year goes on.
Marlow Long Distance Sculls 27th October
This event saw the first appearance of the J15 second quad (Ben Seymour, James Baker, Henry Richards and Alex Warrilow-Wilson, cox Jim Thomson) and the first win for the J15 first quad (Alex Lai, Alex Dark, Adam Roberts and Naeem Iqbal, cox Kevin Ring) as the fastest Men's quad of the day in the novice event in the morning. The afternoon Championship Sculls saw two J16 doubles competing with Alex Biondini and Ross Thomson coming second.
National Junior Sculling Head
On Monday 3rd March the RGS returned to the water after several weeks during which flooding had once again restricted rowing.
The National Junior Sculling Head is the conclusion of the winter head racing season. A disappointing showing from the year 11 quad saw them finish in 20th place but the year 10 crew of Naeem Iqbal, Adam Roberts, Henry Richards, Alex Dark and Leo Naylor (cox) finished in a very impressive 6th place, just 7 seconds behind the winners. Well done to them and fingers crossed for some better weather next term!
