Staff of the Physics Department
Teachers:
Mr M. Earl, BSc(Reading)
joined the Physics Department in 197?. As our most experienced teacher, and Second in Department, his skills and views are always valuable to us. He has particular responsibilities for Key Stage 3, and has revamped the Department's Scheme of Work. He is also our Supervisor for the use of Ionizing Radiations. He has particular interests in Meteorology, Tennis, and Oxford United.
Mr P.W. Glendining, MA(Oxon)
joined the Physics Department in 1995. In addition to his duties as Timetabler to the School, he finds time to run our Astronomy Club and lead the School's Academic Forum link with Wycombe Abbey. As expected, his principal interest is in Astronomy, and he leads the Astrophysics option of the A/S course; however he is also our principal adviser on Particle Physics.
Mr I.T. Hardiman, BSc
joined the Physics Department as a Newly Qualified Teacher in 2006. With his great enthusiasm for the subject, he is an asset to the team. He leads part of the Nuclear and Particle Physics option of the A/S course. He will shortly be commissioned as an Army Officer to assist with the CCF, and frequently takes part in World Challenge expeditions.
Mr M.K. Hardyman, BSc
joined the Physics Department in 2007 from Enfield Grammar School, where he was Head of Physics. He has taken up the position of Head of Key Stage 5 which will involve the selection of a new A-level course for us to study once the current syllabi expire in 2008, and the preparation of new resources. He is easy to recognize by his height of 2.01m (6'7").
Mr A.C. Machacek, MPhys, DPhil(Oxon)
joined the Physics Department in 2006 from Shrewsbury School, having previously conducted research into laser-plasma physics at Oxford and at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. He serves as Head of Physics. His professional interests centre around Theoretical Physics, and he also assists with the School Stage Lighting and Sound Team.
Technicians:
Mr A.R. Haynes
joined the Physics Department after service with the Royal Air Force for many years, and his technical capabilities are extremely valuable in tending to our large legacy of experimental equipment. He also participates regularly in the World Challenge expeditions. His usual days of duty are Monday to Wednesday.
Mr C.G. Honey
joined the Physics Department after a varied career including technical work in some of the U.K.'s most prestigious national laboratories. His skills are much in demand in tending to the resources used for all our teaching - but especially Key Stage 3. His usual days of duty are Thursday and Friday.
