British Youth Modern Pentathlon Championships – 30 & 31st August
Josh Radvan followed up his his academic success with a Gold Medal in the British Youth Modern Pentathlon Championships held in Solihull last weekend.
Josh (Royal Grammar School & Chalfont Otters) competed in the U17 event, hoping to improve on his silver medal from last year. The National Championships are one of the few events during the year where young athletes compete in all five disciplines of Modern Pentathlon – Shooting, Fencing, Swimming, Riding and Running.
The first event on Saturday was the 10metre air pistol shoot. This is Josh’s weakest event and therefore he was very pleased that his recent hard training resulted in a good score, leaving him in 6th place at the end of this event. The shoot was followed by the Fence where he finished equal 1st, with a win ratio of 70%, placing him at the top of the leader-board.
Saturday evening finished with the 200m swim. Josh was delighted to head the final heat home and win the swim, increasing his overall lead further at the close of day one.
Sunday morning on the cross country Josh was able to consolidate the lead further still, in his strongest event, winning by four seconds.
The final event was the show jumping. With a clear round and no time penalties, Josh won the ride with maximum points, securing first place overall.
