Tips from 7AB
We asked boys in 7AB what tips and advice they would offer to new boys starting at the RGS in September. Here are some of their thoughts and ideas:
"It's really important to get yourself organised"
"Although the school is huge, it will only take about a week or two to know your way around."
"Using your locker helps with organisation and means you don't have to drag too much stuff around"
"Make sure you know where your bus leaves from for the first day - ask the driver or bus prefects on the first morning."
"Keep a map of the school somewhere close to your heart."
"Your planner is the most important book."
"Do homework on the night it is set."
"Have a go at everything. Try your best."
"Find out where notice boards are, so that you know what is going on in school."
"Hand in your homework on time. If you have a problem, need help or more time, speak to your teacher sooner rather than later."
"Don't just stick with your friends from your old school. Make a real effort to make new friends, especially in your form group."
"Take all your opportunities."
"Be polite and make a good impression."
"Go around in groups to start with when trying to find classrooms. Make sure no-one gets left behind on their own."
"Don't forget that Year 7 have their own reserved playground area."
"There are many discos in a year so don't worry if you miss one."
"The year starts easily - you don't get hard homework too soon."
"All the teachers and prefects look out for Year 7s. They are willing to help if you are worried or lost."
"Make sure you know how long it takes to walk to the bus stop from home. Leave plenty of time."
"Look on the school website to see what sports clubs and other clubs you can join."
"You don't need to be nervous."
"It won't take long to get used to your new routine."
"The RGS has an excellent anti-bullying scheme."
"You can take DVDs out of the library!"
