National Biathlon and European selection for Josh Radvan
It’s been quite a busy few months for Josh Radvan (Chalfont Otters and RGS Year 11).
He spent the Easter school break in Berlin, training with the GB Modern Pentathlon squad, including the opportunity to fence with the German National team. He then travelled to Rome, to compete in the Italian Open and International invitational event, at U18 level. He performed very well in the run, coming second overall, and with a good swim and fence, but a low shoot, he ended the competition in 11th place. His other GB team members, finished in 9th & 12th place. This resulted in them winning the silver medal for the team event. The coaches were particularly pleased with this, since it's some time since a junior boys team has 'medalled' internationally.
At the start of May he won the U17 3000 metres County Title, at the Bucks AA Track and Field Championship in Milton Keynes. This was a very hard race with the second place boy being given the same time as Josh, who just beat him in the run for the line.
He was honoured to receive the "Chiltern Achievement in Sport Award," for boys aged 15-21, which was presented at the Chiltern District Council Chamber. He was also presented with a SportsAid Award, along with seven other athletes in Buckinghamshire, aged 12-18, at the launch of Buckinghamshire Sports Aid Foundation at Adams Park.
Last weekend he travelled to Macclesfield for the National Biathlon (Swim & Run) Finals. Qualifiers from all UK regions competed in a 200m swim and 2 km run. Josh finished 6th in the swim and then won the run, to finish overall in the bronze medal position.
The Biathlon was the last qualifying event for GB selection and Josh was delighted to receive confirmation this week that he has been selected for the GB U17 team to compete in the Modern Pentathlon European Championships, to be held in Dublin in July.
Many congratulations to Josh on his selection, and we wish him every success in Ireland in July.
