CCF
The broad function of the CCF is to provide a disciplined
teamwork and leadershiporganisation within the school so that pupils may develop powers of leadership by means of training to promote the qualities of responsibility, self reliance, resourcefulness, endurance and perseverence. The specific function of the Service training in the CCF is:
- to provide the opportunity for young people to exercise responsibility and leadership, and to learn from the Services how they can best be developed.
- to impart a basic knowledge and understanding of the role of the Armed Forces.
- to encourage those who have an interest in the Services to join the Regular or Reserve Forces.
The CCF is not a recruiting service.
Organisation
The CCF at RGS has three distinct sections which all follow a syllabus directed by their parent service:
- Royal Navy
- Army
- Royal Air Force
More information on each of these sections can be found on their own syllabus pages.
Shooting and Safety
As part of the CCF, cadets in all three sections will undergo shooting and safety training on at least one rifle type. At the RGS we recognise that many parents are concerned about their sons learning how to use firearms. It has been conclusively proved by a large number of medical studies that there is a causal link between media violence and video games and the increased level of violence in society today. Unlike media products, the CCF teaches students the necessary discipline and restraint that goes with the responsibility of handling weapons. Lessons and exercises under the supervision of qualified instructors have been shown to act as a powerful counter to the negative violent stereotypes in the modern media.
Camps
The CCF runs field weekends for all its cadets throughout the year at a range of military training areas. Cadets can also go on leadership or skill development courses during the holidays. Accounts of some of our activities can be found on the CCF pages.
RAF Summer Camp 2007
The link below is to a video that was filmed by one of our senior NCOs in 2008. It illustrates some of the activities our boys enjoy.
The CCF can be summed up with one word: opportunity. At very little cost it offers your son the chance to engage in a tremendously wide variety of activities, to learn new skills and to explore and expand his mental and physical horizons.
