RGS 254-8 (35 overs) Tom Francis 102 Joe Kelleher 68 James McCue 31 Thame 106 all out David Heavyside 3-16 Tom Hemmings 3-27 Ali Stephens 3-29 RGS WON BY 148 RUNS
RGS 1st XI played their 6th consecutive home game of the season and were convincing winners against Lord William’s School, Thame.
Put into bat on a flat track, RGS lost Dan Wood fairly early on in the innings and Joe Kelleher and David Heavyside played themselves in well and looked to attack at every opportunity with some very positive running between the wickets. Having been dropped early in his innings, David failed to capitalise on this and skied a catch to mid wicket and was out for 23. This brought captain Tom Francis to the crease and, first with Joe and then with James Mc Cue, Tom destroyed the Thame attack hitting 7 sixes and 8 fours in a brilliant innings of 102. Joe scored another very impressive fifty and James again batted solidly for his 31. With Tom and James both dismissed, the innings rather faltered towards the end and the two Thame openers stemmed the flow of runs leaving RGS on 254-8 after their 35 overs.
The Thame batsmen were clearly under pressure to score at over 7 an over from the outset and although they started promisingly the Thame opener went for one too many shots and was brilliantly caught by a tumbling Dan Wood at mid off. The first wicket brought about a mini collapse and Thame found themselves 30-4, 48-6 and 79-8. Tom Hemmings, David Heavyside and Ali Stephens all picked up 3 wickets as Thame were dismissed for 106 in 26 overs. This was a comprehensive win and a dominating performance against a team boasting an England U19 international and was the team’s fourth consecutive victory after two early season defeats. The boys now take a break for half term and some serious school work before the exams and we resume in two weeks time.
