With just six week's before it would become the venue for the Olympic Games rowing events the 157th Marlow Regatta, held at Dorney Lake, attracted crews from all over the world.
RGS had one crew entered in the Junior 16 Double Sculls event - Tom Commins and Rob Eyres.
It was blowing a gale and out of the 5 entries only 3 were on the start line. However, the one crew that RGS were interested in were the boys from Walton, who had beaten them at the Hampton Head by 0.5 seconds.
The boys had an average start and were down by a few feet to Walton but they gritted their teeth and kept up the pressure. By 500 m they were up and by the 1500m mark 3 lengths ahead. Walton made a late surge but Tom and Rob held on to win by a length.
