For the first time since 1991 when Olympian Jon Wyatt led out his RGS team to the National Outdoor Final an RGS hockey captain has repeated this honour. Jack Whelan and his U14 team progressed from the Buckinghamshire County Round and the South of England Regional Round as winners of these groups to represent the school at the National Finals. An eight team competition was held at Cannock Hockey Club near Birmingham on 24th April. The boys won their group matches to set up a re-match of the South Round final against Whitgift school (RGS won the Regional final on penalty flicks!)
Despite losing the final 2-0 in a close fought match (both goals coming from set pieces) the RGS team have punched significantly above their weight. RGS was the only State school to reach the U14 National stage and were so close to taking the title. The team has a very bright future.
