Three members of the Year 7 Under 12 D rugby team were chosen to represent the Mayor of Wycombe in the Annual Shopmobility Pancake Race in the Eden Centre, High Wycombe on Tuesday 21 February.
Sponsored by David Griffin, the Shopmobility Pancake Race is an annual fundraiser for the local community where teams of three enter a relay race round the Dean’s Diner building in the shopping centre to win the Charity Shield trophy.
Last year’s winners, Noodle Nation, were invited to defend their title but unfortunate choices of footwear meant that they lost out in the second heat. The race was not without injury, when one of the AMG Bowling team slipped over when rounding a corner and sent his pancake flying over the barriers and onto the roundabout beyond. Luckily the runner wasn’t hurt, but the same cannot be said for the pancake.
The RGS boys’ (Liam Morgan, Tom Howe and Ryan Alford) clever relay tactics meant that they beat all of the local teams from AMG Bowling to Noodle Nation to win the trophy in a nail-biting final lap against the athletic Eden Centre Security team who were head-to-head with our champion sprinter Tom Howe, but dropped the pancake in their final toss, leaving the RGS colours to streak past the finish line as the 2012 winning team!
Pancake coach, Miss Eastham said: “We were really delighted to be able to represent the Mayor in this local fundraising race. Shopmobility offer an important service to the community and to be able to highlight the work they do in this way is fantastic. The boys did incredibly well today, beating every team in each race – they came up with great race tactics and fully deserved the win – we hope the Mayor is pleased with this year’s champions!”
