We are very pleased to announce a major recycling initiative, code named "We're talking rubbish!", which launches this Thursday:
Date: Thursday 23rd June
Time: 08.45ish
Place: RGS, High Wycombe
Phase: Phase 1
Enemy: All landfill sites, everywhere
Objective: Reduce waste sent to landfill
Weapons: New red and blue bins
Method: Paper and card in blue bins
Plastic bottles and drinks cans in red bins
Crew: Boys and Staff
Like most schools, we produce a shocking amount of waste, and it is high time we did something about this. Recycling around the school has been sporadic for some time now, and this project aims to begin the process of integrating responsible waste management into our school-wide daily routines.
Phase 1 launches on Thursday 23rd June. Forms in Years 7 - 10 and 12 will all be issued with two new bins - a raspberry red one for plastic bottles and tin cans and a blueberry blue one for paper and card (how funky and exciting is that?!). Each form is being asked to nominate 2 "We're talking rubbish!" reps who will take initial responsibility for overseeing the project in their form rooms. The aim is that all boys will take responsibility for sorting their waste and each individual form will organise themselves once a week to take recyclable waste to the appropriate bins at the back of School House.
If all boys and staff get on board, and just make that minuscule effort to make sure that their waste ends up in the correct bin, then we should be able to rapidly remove a considerable amount of waste from our main rubbish bins, and reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill sites.
Phase 1 will be relaunched at the beginning of September when all year groups are back in school, but we are keen to make a start over the last few weeks this term when things are a little bit quieter.
Planned later phases of the project aim to tackle further areas of the school site - there is plenty of work to be done! We hope that boys will want to get on board and take up some leadership themselves. All ideas are very welcome to Mr Balaam! More information in due course!
