ACADEMY STATUS

The school heard today, Tuesday 1 February, that its application to convert to Academy Status with immediate effect has been agreed by the Secretary of State. 

As a state boarding school, the conversion process has not been straight forward and we have been required to cover many aspects that will be different to schools not offering boarding.  Although this has not been without its challenges, it meant that the school had to look very carefully at all aspects before agreeing to convert.  We are confident that this is the right decision for the school and we look forward to the new opportunities that lie before us as an academy. 

Initially we anticipate that parents and boys will see little difference.  Only when we have worked through some of the plans and ambitions that the governors have will we fully realise the benefits that the change of status brings. 

The school remains committed to providing a first class education for all boys at RGS as well as working with the local community of schools.  We will continue to contribute in a positive and supportive way.
