ROWING NEWS FROM HENLEY

On November 6th Tom Commins and Naeem Iqbal entered the Henley Head of the River event. This was a 3000m course rowed against the stream. Tom rowed exceptionally well, not only winning his class, but coming  9th overall out of over 200 boats and  beating many much older adults and  juniors.

Naeem rowed a double in the morning and a single in the afternoon.  He  missed out from winning gold in the double by 2 seconds.  The effort  showed in the afternoon when, rowing up a class, he came 8th and 50th  overall.

Heads of the River events - commonly known as 'Heads' - are processional race in which the boats set off at 10-15 second  intervals and are timed over a set course the fastest time wins. These  races take place between September and End of March / Beginning of  April.  The final Head the The Head of the River race which takes place   in London and just involves 8's.

The Head of the River event on 13th November is at Pangbourne - and Tom Commins is entered for that event.  The following Saturday 20th November is Marlow 4's and pairs this will take place on  the stretch of river below the lock between Marlow and Bourne End.
