We were pleased to host a German colleague for a week. Anna Glaser from the Wilhelmsdorf Gymnasium in Southern Germany spent her week's half-term as our guest and was interested to see school life and some lessons in the Language and English departments.

Here are her impressions:
At the end of May I had the opportunity to spend a week at the RGS. It was very interesting for me to see how German as a foreign language is taught in Great Britain and I also enjoyed some exciting English and drama lessons. I knew that in GB pupils have to wear a uniform and I was prejudiced against it, but when I was at your school I thought the uniform had some positive influence on the pupils’ behaviour. I also found that the atmosphere in the staff-room was very relaxed. In our school we don’t separate the different departments, which means that all the teachers are together in one room and this sometimes causes a rather busy atmosphere and it is quite noisy of course. What also impressed me a lot were your white boards and the high-tech equipment in every classroom. Thank you, Andrew Balaam , for the competent and interesting introduction. I have already started to use Moodle! Thank you again for a most interesting week at RGS. I am very grateful that you made my stay possible and I did not only get a deeper insight into your school system but also quite some useful ideas which I try to put into practice. I want to thank the teachers in the language department for the friendly welcome and the openness which I was able to experience throughout my stay.
