On Tuesday 27th March, three Sixth form students presented to the student assembly RGS Run For Tom. This is the presentation given to the school:
On 4th May 2007, Tom Burton, aged 13, collapsed as he was running into school to meet his friends that morning. Tom’s death had a profound effect on all those who knew him and it is in his memory that this event is being organised.

In the summer of 2012, a group of RGS Sixth Formers are going to be running in events across the country to raise money and awareness for the British Heart Foundation. Each runner has pledged a distance varying from 10 miles to multiple marathons, contributing to an overall target of 1000 km: an impressive target that we hope will raise an equally impressive £10000 for the charity.
Diseases of the circulatory system are the UK’s biggest killer and are responsible for one third of all premature deaths in the UK. It is this devastating statistic that the British Heart Foundation combats. It is this devastating statistic that convinced 39 RGS Sixth Form students that it was time we did something to help.
This is an incredible event, but without your support it means nothing. The running and the distances are impressive, but it is you, the RGS community; the person who picks up their phone or goes on the computer and donates as much or as little as they can, who are going to make the difference.
There are a number of ways you can donate. The easiest way is through our Just Giving Page which can be found at www.justgiving.com/RGSrunfortom . On there, there is information on the event as well as the total donations we have received so you can follow our progress. Or you can donate by texting TOMB94 £X (where X is your donation) to 70070.
The success of this event really does depend on your involvement, so, if as well as donating, anybody would like to get involved with other fundraising ideas whether as a form, a group of friends or individually, please contact us at Info@runfortom.co.uk .
Thank you for all your support, and please donate generously.
