CLOSE

Monday, 19 Mar 2012

Eight pairs of RGS fives players in the U13 age group travelled to Eton College to take part in the National U13s championships.

32 pairs took part, from schools across the country.
After an initial stage where the pairs played in pools of 8 pairs, the leading two pairs in each pool progressed to the Trophy competition.  The rest of the players went into the Plate competition.  7 of the RGS pairs were successful in their pools and were put into the Trophy competition.
The Plate and Trophy competitions were then decided by knock-out, with Trophy and Plate games proceeding simultaneously.
Two RGS pairs were eliminated in the first games of the 2nd round as they met other RGS pairs.  They then went into the Plate eliminators.
After a series of three game matches, RGS 1 (Laith Edris and Faiz Gulistan) beat St Olaves 2. Similarly, RGS 2 (Dylan Stephens and Manazir Najib) lost to St Olaves 1.  This set up RGS 1 to meet St Olaves 1 in the final where St Olaves won 2 – 1.  RGS 2 met St Olaves 2 in the 3rd/4th place playoff, which RGS lost 1 - 2

The RGS 1 pair were awarded individual runner-up plaques.

The remaining RGS teams played a series of knock-out games culminating in RGS 7 (Tom Lister and Musa Umar) winning the Plate Semi-final match 3 – 0 and then going on to win the Plate Final game 15 – 1

The RGS 7 pair were awarded individual Plate winner plaques.
