RGS Music Department decamped to Salzburg for the first weekend of December, 2011, to enjoy a third trip in the ongoing cultural exchange between RGS and the Bundesgymnasium Nonntal, a language orientated grammar school near the centre of Salzburg Old Town.
Thirteen RGS musicians took part in a series of musical activities with the young people of the BGN, as it is known, giving a lunchtime recital in the school on the Friday (2nd), sharing in a concert in the Abbey Church of the local convent of Maria von Trapp fame (see pictures above and below), and joining the cathedral choir on the Sunday morning in leading the worship at Mass, including singing the gorgeous setting of Ave Maria by Biebl in front of the packed cathedral congregation of over a thousand!
On the Sunday evening, they had the treat of attending a concert in the old hall of the famous Mozarteum, listening to Mozart’s Requiem – followed by Iranian folk music!!!! The trip was an excellent event for all concerned, and we look forward to welcoming our friends from Salzburg next December, when they will once again join with us in our carol service in All Saint’s church.
