WET SPONGES FOR CANCER RESEARCH UK

CLOSE

Monday, 23 May 2011

On Friday 20th May 2011, at lunchtime on the Astroturf, a large number of year 9 boys queued up to throw water-soaked sponges at the staff. 16 members of teaching and non-teaching staff volunteered to sit or stand and act as targets, including Miss Sowah, Mrs Rutter, Mr Woolliams, Mr Marshall, Mr Travi, Mrs Dove, Mr Wallace, Mr Parsons, Mrs Sharpe, Mr Hayes, Mr Rose, Mrs McDavitt, Mr Stubbs, Dr Macachek, Mr Young and Mr Toller. This activity was supervised by CCF volunteers and boys were required to throw from a minimum distance. The activity attracted a large number of spectators. Boys paid £1 to throw 5 sponges, and many members of the crowd also made a contribution. It is not the quickest way to raise funds, as boys can only participate a few at a time, but we managed to raise a total of £132 in a 30 minute period, and all proceeds will go to Cancer Research UK.

Our Headmaster was very happy to pay extra in order to throw buckets of water over certain members of staff. Photographs are attached.

Participants and spectators had lots of fun, and no one was seriously injured.
