On Sunday 23rd January five RGS boys took part in the Southern Region Fencing British Youth Championships qualifiers in Newbury. There were fencers from Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hampshire and Wiltshire all competing to win a place in the Epee and Sabre events in the British Youth Championships, which will be held at the England Institute of Sport in Sheffield, over the May Bank holiday weekend.
In order to qualify a fencer had to finish in the top 4 in their age group event.
RGS had a very successful day with three out of the five boys qualifying:
Dan Mosley fenced well to gain a silver medal in the U18 Epee Event.
Noah Blackmore and Omar Kent, both entered in the U16 Sabre, won bronze medals as they finished in joint third place.
All 3 boys will be representing the RGS High Wycombe, under the Southern Region banner in Sheffield in early May.
The Southern Region Fencing BYC qualifying event for Foil takes place on 20 February at Bradfield school in Berkshire and a number of RGS boys will be competing. Hopefully, we will have some more good news to share following this event.
In the meantime, the senior and junior boys fencing fixtures, against other schools, continue and the results for these can be found on the fencing section of the website.
