Rugby

Media Elements

Rugby has traditionally been very strong at the RGS, and the school regularly fields up to nineteen teams on a Saturday.

RGS play some of the very best independent and state schools in the country. The competitive fixture list includes schools such as Millfield, Harrow and Dulwich. RGS has produced over thirty schoolboy internationals in the last twenty years; several of which have gone on to represent England and The British Lions, a list of those boys can be found here. (pdf 118kb).

The latest of which, Tom Rees, represented England at the 2007 World Cup. Other notable internationals include British Lion and World Cup Winner Matt Dawson, British Lion Nick Beal and the sadly deceased Nick Duncombe - who showed so much promise to be capped at 21.

RGS maintains and expects an extremely high standard of rugby throughout the age groups, from the U12's through to the 1st XV. A team of excellent coaches provides the guidance and skills necessary to help players reach their full potential.

RGS has an outstanding Daily Mail Cup record including an unprecedented three U15 final appearances in a row. The senior squad tour every two years. In 2006 the squad toured Argentina and the 2008 squad had a very successful tour of South Africa and Namibia. Details of this can be seen on the Interactive School Trip Map.

RGS rugby is strongly supported by our parent body FRORGS without whom the excellence that RGS achieves at rugby could not be maintained.
