RGS Cricket
The RGS is a strong cricketing school with excellent facilities; we run 14 teams across the school and play a variety of midweek and weekend fixtures. We have an excellent record in the Bucks Cups, and compete in a number of other prestigious competitions Including the RGS festival, Stowe 20:20 Cup and Berkhamsted 20:20 Cup. The highlight of the cricket calendar is on the 19th of June when the RGS 1st XI play the MCC. Fixtures will be shown here shortly.
FRGSCC Membership
Cricket at the school is kindly support by the parent organisation FRGSCC (Friends of Royal Grammar School Cricket Club). This organisation raises money to support cricket at the school and have recently contribute many thousands of pounds to improve the coaching and playing facilities at the school.
FRGSCC raises money in 3 ways
1. Memberships! All parents of RGS cricketers are invited to become an annual (£40PA) or life (£200) member of FRGSCC. In return for this membership you will receive an invite to the MCC match lunch, a FRGSCC Tie and the use of tea and coffee making facilities in the pavilion.
2. The committee organise the annual Bat ‘Oar’ Ball. This fundraiser is great fun night out where parents and friends of the school can support RGS Sport.
3. We run a Bi-Annual Raffle to raise further funds. This will next be held in Summer 2014.

Touring
The RGS cricket tours both domestically and internationally. On even years we run a domestic junior tour for the u13’s and u14’s this tour is run early in the season with the intention of preparing the boys for the county cup competitions, last season the boys toured Northumberland and enjoyed games against RGS Newcastle and the Northumberland county team. On alternate years to the junior tour we run a senior overseas tour. 2011 saw a fantastic tour to Antigua whilst this year 17 lucky boys are touring Barbados. Please see the Barbados page of the web site for more information.
Clothing and Equipment
We launched the new RGS cricket shirt and jumper last season. While we are not making this kit compulsory, we do encourage all cricketers to buy it. Click here for an order form for the cricket kit. Please return it to the school shop by the Wednesday 27th March. The kit can be purchased from the school shop during the season; however there will be a 1-2 week order delay. All boys should arrive for matches in cricket whites and school blazers. We discourage whites with club, district or county logos.
We provide the boys with protective equipment for training and matches. Many boys bring their own equipment however this is not essential. All boys U18 must use Helmet when batting. If you are looking to buy equipment, there many good suppliers of cricket equipment in the local area, Including Chiltern Sports.
Matches and Training
If your son wishes to be selected for matches he must attend the school training sessions. If he is unable to attend he should speak to his coach in advance of missing a session. We strive to provide pupils with a comprehensive fixture list, mixing midweek and weekend fixtures. If you know in advance that your son is unable to attend a fixture he should tell his coach in good time. If a match is called off the cancellation will be posted on the cricket fixtures section on the school website, it is advisable to check this before travelling. Parents are actively encouraged to support fixtures; if you are intending to transport your son directly to a game it is essential that your son’s coach is notified in advance.
We have been requested to recommend a coach who is able to work with students outside of school. Rob Collins minxdesigns@btinternet.com (ECB level 3 coach) is keen to work with RGS pupils and charges a competitive rate.
