Why Board at RGS?

We have up to seventy boarders aged 11-18 in one purpose-built modern boarding house.  Our boarders consistently rate their experiences of school and boarding as outstanding. We are delighted to say that the boarders and staff share a true sense of family and community. We aim to make Fraser Youens a genuine home from home with the boys in our care central to every aspect of boarding life.

Our boys benefit greatly from boarding at RGS and our boarders have consistently outperformed the day students at the school over the past eight years. Recent leavers achieved a stunning 90% at A*-B at A level and 77% A*A at GCSE.  Boarders benefit from the extra time that is not spent travelling allowing all students to participate in school activities and the wide-ranging activities that boarding is able to offer. The ability to socialise, to have in-built free time and the support for both academic and pastoral issues is core to the success of our boarders at RGS.

We believe that boarding should not be separation from family but an extension of family with a working partnership between the boarder, parents and school and boarding staff being at the very core of that family. Indeed the interaction and regular contact between boarding staff and parents is key to the success of our boarders.  Boarding is a family community and many of our boarders help lead the community within the house and school. Boarders often are the leaders in school on an academic, sporting and co-curricular front.
