They will be excellent role models for other students and ambassadors for the Royal Grammar School and will make a significant contribution to the extra-curricular life of the school.
An Academic Scholar will have a proven record of academic achievement throughout their school career, which will result in at least 7 A* Grades at GCSE. (or the equivalent with the new 1-9 grade system, 8 & 9 equating to A*, Award of an A in FSMQ Maths will be accepted as equivalent to A*)
A Sport Scholar will have a proven record of representative achievements (at least County level or above, this could include Academy representation) in a sport. A Sports Scholar will make a significant contribution to representative sport as a performer and to the junior sports programme in helping coach or mentor junior students. A sports scholar must gain the required grades for entry to RGS sixth form.
Application Procedure for Sixth Form Boarding Scholarships
Candidates wishing to apply for a Sixth Form Boarding Scholarship must write a separate letter to be submitted along with the usual Sixth Form Boarding Application Form. This form and letter must be submitted to the Admissions Office by the published deadline. (1st Feb 2019)
Candidates must attend RGS High Wycombe for an interview regarding boarding and scholarships. The Royal Grammar School, High Wycombe will seek confirmation of a candidate’s predicted grades and report from his/her current school. These predicted grades and report must indicate that the candidate will meet the grades required for the award of a scholarship.
All candidates must submit a portfolio containing the candidate’s certificates of sporting achievement, press cuttings, any letters from sports coaches and any other pertinent sporting information to the Director of Sport no later than 1st February 2019. If the information provided confirms that the candidate’s achievements are at least at the level required for a scholarship, he will be invited for an interview with the Director of Sport. Candidates who have not already attended a boarding interview will be invited at the same time to meet with a senior member of boarding staff.
Award and Tenure of Scholarships
The award of scholarships is at the discretion of the Scholarship Panel (comprising of a Trustee, Director of Boarding & Headmaster) based on the evidence provided by the assessments and interviews.
A review of a scholar’s performance, commitment and conduct may take place at any time during the tenure of the scholarship. A scholarship may be withdrawn by the Panel if this review is unsatisfactory. Subject to the above review, the tenure of the scholarship is expected to run for the two years of Sixth form education.
